Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20 1964) was an American lawyer, politician and vice president of United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S. history, as also the first African American and first Asian American vice president. A member of the Democratic Party, she has been attorney general for California between 2011 and 2017 and was the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California from 2011 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Her first job was with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected as San Francisco's district attorney. She was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and then she was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior member of the United States Senate from California from 2017-2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the first African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, she was a vocal advocate for healthcare reform as well as federal de-scheduling cannabis, a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legal, the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. She earned national attention due to her sharp questions of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings, which included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of assault on a woman.
